I have been a financial planner since 2004 and am fascinated by how a plan can help us all become accountable for our goals. With planning; with monitoring the plan; and then adapting the plan to life’s events, we are able to gain peace of mind.
On the professional side I am a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified General Accountant (CGA) and I hold the Certified Financial Planner® designation (CFP®).
I grew up in an English family where my father was a Chartered Accountant and my mother was a stay-at-home wife. All well and good until my parents decided that they loved travelling and working in foreign countries. I had to live with financial feast or famine depending upon whether there was work or travel. I disliked not knowing what the family’s financial situation would be and its impact on my life and friends.
This has had an influence on my career aspirations and my desire to understand finance. I chose to go into accounting because the influence of money and economics fascinates me. It has had such an impact on my lifestyle decisions. I am also very aware of the emotional impact of income, expenses, debt and net worth. It’s fine if they are in line with personal lifestyle desires but life-sapping if they are out of kilter.
I started my career with N.M. Rothschild in the City of London. I then moved with my husband to Canada where we eventually settled in Calgary. We raised a family and I also worked in the financial field for many years. I spent 12 years working in oil and gas.
In 2004, I decided that I wanted to help clients with their personal financial plans and so studied financial planning. Over the years I have worked in many financial institutions. I have now established my own consultancy dedicated to the creation of financial plans. I am also dedicated to educating clients on all aspects of financial and goal planning.
In addition to the CPA CGA, I obtained the CFP® designation since (according to the FP Canada Standards Council): “The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation is the most widely recognized financial planning designation in Canada and worldwide. It provides assurance to Canadians that the design of their financial planning rests with a professional who will put their clients’ interests ahead of their own. CFP® professionals have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, experience and ethics to examine their clients’ entire financial picture, at the highest level of complexity required of the profession.”
The FP Canada’s tagline is “Let’s Build a Plan to Help You Live Life Confidently™”.
